Rachel Faulkner is truly a #womanontherise. The Georgia native may have recently graduated with honors from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, but that doesn’t mean the blonde beauty spent all day in the library. Instead, most of Rachel’s studying was done on the road; she traveled during the weekends throughout college to New York City, Miami, and Atlanta to develop her modeling career. This soon opened the door to various acting opportunities and that’s how Rachel discovered her passion for film.
Now based in Los Angeles, the ambitious young actor has already performed alongside the likes of Kevin Hart, Dustin Hoffman, and Sofia Vergara in films such as Chef (2014) and Ride Along 2 (2016). When she’s not running from castings to auditions, Rachel stays active and takes advantage of the coastal lifestyle. With a B.S. in Exercise Science, Rachel appreciates the importance of health and wellness and makes sure to get in a daily sweat session, whether it is from a day out on the waves or time spent hiking.
The Rise City team met up with Rachel on a recent trip to L.A. to hear more about her burgeoning career, why she connects so strongly to the mission at Rise City Swim, and what it was like to shoot for Rise City at the Mondrian Los Angeles. Read on for our full Q&A.
Rise City Swim: What keeps you busy Monday through Friday?
Rachel Faulkner: Castings and auditions keep me fairly busy. I also constantly work on expanding my brand and researching new marketing techniques.
RCS: What have been your biggest challenges in creating your brand and image?
RF: My biggest challenge has been keeping my options open for various types of jobs, while also tuning into my strengths. I love being a versatile person and actress, but it's also important for me to focus on key components.
RCS: What’s your idea of a day well spent?
RF: My favorite days start with an early morning, cold brew coffee, a surfing session (with good waves), and hiking – and then end with a great meal with friends. I truly feel my best outdoors, especially when I’m in the water. That’s just one way that Rise City Swim appealed to me so much – I basically live in a bikini.
RCS: What’s your proudest accomplishment?
RF: My proudest accomplishment was when I won the ACHI Magazine Model Award for 2014, and my dad was right there beside me to soak up the experience.
Rachel on Determining a Career Path:
“Pursue what you can’t go a day without thinking about.”
RCS: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
RF: Network with everyone on set in order to create and maintain positive relationships. The entertainment industry may seem huge, but networking will make you realize how small it truly is, and also how knowing and working with one person that you become memorable to can put you on the map. And this applies to all relationships, both professional and personal – it’s always important to be positive and work hard to keep in touch.
RCS: What advice do you have for other young women?
RF: Pursue what you can't go a day without thinking about.
RCS: How do you connect to the Rise City Swim brand?
RF: Besides being initially attracted to Rise City’s female-empowering mission, which truly makes it stand out in the market, the suits are just so comfortable! They’re great for my active aquatic lifestyle, and I love mixing and matching styles with the Cora top and Hazel bottom.
RCS: What’s next?
RF: I plan on amping up my acting education and attending more castings and auditions. I'm filming two movies this summer and fall – Another Brick in the Wall and Finding Waldo -- which I'm super excited to be working on. And when I have a chance, I want to complete my skydiving certification!
